NPR had an article on recently about decoding the genome of pigs as well. The same comment about the sharing of biological code was made.

Really I think it comes down to the fact that all life on earth is carbon based and operates on the same principles. Even insects that seem totally alien
have simular organs and systems. We will not see a creature that doesn't share our DNA untill we find one on another planet.

Of course we share most of our DNA with horses, pigs, lions, centaurs, and unicorns. They're all mammals, so pre-Chicxulub we were all little rodents
skittering around avoiding the dinos. (Except the unicorns, they were already sparkly.)
