Fort Hood Shooting |
Lead | ||
|
This is pretty f'ing terrible. 11 victims, as well as the shooter are dead and over 30 injured. Supposedly an Army Major and psychiatrist went on a
shooting rampage on base, killing a bunch of fellow soldiers. Ugh.

This town just can't get enough... Two major spree-shooters in such a small town. WTF?

Fort Hood is where we did our processing prior to this deployment. I'm still waiting on word about a couple of people who we know that work in the SRP
there. Not happy to hear that this guy might have been under investigation for the past six months.

Just found out that a good friend from high school had her new husband (been married 3 months) shot multiple times during this assault. A touch close to home
for my liking.

Lot of speculation about what they will and/or should do for the families of the deceased. If those soldiers had died in a combat theatre, they would be
promoted (posthumously) to the next higher rank and any benefits due to the families would be based upon that higher rank. Since most of those soldiers killed
at Ft. Hood were preparing to mobolize, the general concensus here is that the Army should consider that and treat them as if they were in a combat theatre.

Agreed. It's interesting that the psychiatrist was the shooter (usually its the other way around) and the shooter was not killed- he is still alive. Apparently he has been on the watch track for some time because of his internet use and a poor review from Walter Reed hospital. There was a claim that he was being harassed by soldiers for being Muslim but I have doubts about that given his rank. He was however, documented as being very outspoken against the war in Afghanistan and Pakistan so maybe that is where the harassment lies.
The despicable, vile, traitorous, democrat motherfuckers in the house just rammed through cap and trade which is going to kill jobs, increase costs for
everyone on everything, and is yet another nail in America's coffin. If you voted for a Democrat or Obama your hand is on the hammer's handle and yes,
I damn you. Borofin, June 26, 2009.

Seems like the major thought it was better to kill his fellow soliders rather than fellow muslims.

I'm wondering what thought process was behind the decision to put a practicing Muslim into a position of councilling those who suffer PTSD knowing full
well that the patients might have some disturbingly negative things to say about anything/everything relating to Islam or Muslims in general. Whomever did that
needs to be relieved.

Isn't it part of beign a professional counselor to detach your feelings from the patient's views? I'm sure he's not the only one in his
profession that has had to listen to disturbing things on a daily basis.

I'm going to assume that's just an assumption for the argument, but what radical muslim would want to be a psychiatrist for the US Army?!

It's not like he could leave work at the end of the day and not be around people with the same views as his patients. If, as has been reported, he had to have extensive counselling himself while undergoing training, one has to still wonder why he was put into this position. |

Soy, when you think about it, it'd be a good way to see what your enemy finds most disturbing on the battlefield. |

But I think it's a fairly good assumption at this point with him yelling "God is Great" in arabic while shooting people and his internet posting comparing suicide bombers to soldiers throwing themselves on a grenades. |

Treating Fort Hood as a combat theatre seems like a slippery slope - rather than actually meeting the requirements for a combat theatre, people were preparing for the theatre. What about as car accident of someone who had orders to deploy? |

Because sometimes compassion outweighs regulation. That, and the army may be on the hook here if they do determine that they missed all the signals and let
this happen.

At least six months ago, Hasan came to the attention of law enforcement officials because of Internet postings about suicide bombings and other threats, including posts that equated suicide bombers to soldiers who throw themselves on a grenade to save the lives of their comrades. It sounds like he got some slack for being a muslim and then began to sympathize with the radical muslims. |

It sounds like he got some slack for being a muslim Out of interest how does "he had been harassed about being a Muslim" count as getting some slack?
