Cristi beat Corzine 48% to 44%
McDonnell beat Deeds 58% to 41%

Bloomberg beat Thompson 51% to 46%

I think the more meaningful race here was NJ - Obama was campaigning for Corzine as recently as sunday, and he still lost in a very blue state.

I hate that we didn't get rid of Bloomberg . . . but considering the ratio of money spent in that race, he would have gotten taken out hard if there had been some parity.

Oh and quite modest

Locally, our town moved back to Democrat majority in both city council and board of education.

What was nice is that the referendum dealing with this huge abandoned building structure and parking lot was finally voted on to be made into a park It will cost $8M to clean up the area and make the park, but at least the eyesore will be gone.

The despicable, vile, traitorous, democrat motherfuckers in the house just rammed through cap and trade which is going to kill jobs, increase costs for everyone on everything, and is yet another nail in America's coffin. If you voted for a Democrat or Obama your hand is on the hammer's handle and yes, I damn you. Borofin, June 26, 2009.

The NY metro area and Atlantic City are lopsidedly liberal but the rest of the state is pretty even, or even conservative the closer you get to PA. We even have people like Borofin. I'm surprised Christie won as big as he did, but I'm not surprised that he actually won. Having the highest taxes in the nation was a pretty big issue this campaign.

My mayoral election to replace our old one facing federal corruption charges was run between two wealthy white liberal hausfraus. Flip a coin. Whatever.

Aside from the comedy race in NY-23 it seems like it was a bad night for Democrats in all the headline elections.

Mickey Kaus points out that Rasmussen called the percentages in NJ right on the nose, and they are also the pollsters who show the most opposition to the health care bill.

Aside from ME rejecting Gay Marriage, I'm pretty happy with the outcomes.

I really don't get why everyone is making such a big deal about a one seat Congressional race in a backwoods area of upstate NY. Palin and Hannity stuck their nose in the race to force out the moderate GOP candidate and now it's held by a Democrat for the first time in 200 years. Wooo. I still can't see how this will have any implications in any other parts of the country.

if that's the "conservative party " race, i think that was probably one of the more important topics.

it shouldn't be a surprise that the party in power lost some ground in "pre-midterm" elections. a lot of ground isn't a surpise when you look at the local issues like "holy shit that's a lot of taxes"

i thought the fact a 3rd party candidate was damned close to taking a congressional seat is something that shouldn't be dismissed. the republican- dede with a crazy ass last name dropped out and still took 5% of the vote. that 5% was enough to play spoiler, if you added that 5% to the conservative party d00d, he would have one.

i watched rachel maddow gloat about the conservative party on election eve, and i'm sure its comical to the democrats at this point-until hard left parties mobilize and threaten to gank a liberal district.

i guess the question i'm asking is has the level of discontent with the current two parties reached the point where voters are starting to look elsewhere?

me too, but i could guess pretty easily what a beck, hannity, or oreily would have to say about last night. the real action was watching the far left spin the election results. mr. "my job is to support this president" didn't look to happy last night.

I'm torn in our state for the upcoming midterms. We have Crist running for Senate and I don't know whether it's better to send an idiot to the Senate or let him remain in the Governor's residence.

Seems like we're fucked either way. Maybe if we're lucky, his sham marriage will be publicly debunked and his reported true preference outted and we can kiss his political aspirations goodbye.

The thing that fucks NJ from my perspective is we'd made progressive strides in abolishing the death penalty and were right on course for legalizing gay marriage and medicinal marijuana. Christie kills any plan on the latter two for the foreseeable future. All because people (understandably) wanted a tax cut.

The problem with this is that the state is so buried in debt that there's no way he can actually cut taxes in any meaningful way without just pushing the issue further into future, so really, all we get is pro-life social conservative who isn't saving anyone any money.

We in the communal sense. I don't care what party Bloomberg is, he is massively and agressively anti gun rights, so I would like to see him go away.

Two things - it wasn't over a moderate GOP candidate, it was over a liberal one. And the reason it matters is that there is still infighting among the Republicans. I hope it ends soon - I like the Fiscal conservative, ignore the social conservative party line of late.

Same mistake Nancy Pelosi made. Change that to 1993 and the historical significance vanishes.

There's no significance anyways, hence the sarcastic "wooo". It's one seat in sparsely populated region of New York that probably had more people in the woods trying to bag a 10-pointer than at the polls.

Now that the election is over, everyone in the country can go back to not giving a shit what happens up there.

By far my favorite piece of news involved the election in Driftwood, a small town outside Austin, where Proposition One created a property tax not to exceed 15 cents per $100, and Proposition Two created a 1.25 cent sales tax. Both measures passed with a margin of one vote to zero. Yes, only one person voted in Driftwood, and he or she was obviously a tax and spend liberal. I said it was small, didn't I? As of 2000, the population of Driftwood was 21, which makes you wonder why this aptly named community had to bother with "propositions" and fractional sales tax to begin with. Just agree to put your extra pennies in the little dish next to the cash register and be done with it.
