Last year's record: 2-14

I think this can easily be marked as the lowest point in Raider history. Since going 11-5 in 2002 and blowing it in the Superbowl the Raiders have won 15 games in 4 years. We made a horrible trade with losing a key linebacker for a washed up receiver. We might have blown a #2 overall pick with an offensive tackle that looks like a bust.

It's a tough time to be a Raider fan.

New hope shines on the 2007 season though. Lane Kiffin has been hired and is the youngest head coach in NFL histroy. Word is that this guy was born to coach and has been breaking down film since he was playing ball in high school. The entire team seems to be behind him, which is a marked change from the debacle of last year. Gone is the disgruntled Randy Moss, and Jerry Porter is back to being the type of player he was before his suspension riddled season of 2006.

The Raiders have yet to sign their #1 pick, but the quarterback situation is far better than it has been in the last couple years. Josh McGown has some people being reminded of Rich Gannon when he came over. Andrew Walter is trying to remain competitive, and now it looks like the Raiders might go with a 4th option of Daunte Culpepper. While Russell has yet to sign, I'm not really all that concerned because I didn't want him playing this season anyway.

The defense, which was already good, has been bolstered. We signed Donovin Darius and Warren Sapp showed up to camp 50 lbs lighter than last year.

I'm hoping we can win 8 games this year. We should be able to beat the Lions, Texans, Packers, Browns, Chiefs (home) Vikings, Dolphins and Denver (home).

I think they will be better this year but I'm not sure that will translate into a lot more wins. Aside from the fact all teams will win and lose games they shouldn't, their division is brutal and drawing the AFC South is no picnic either. The saving grace is the NFC north games which is a weak conference.

As for JaRussell, I think they should ja-start McCown (or JaDaunte if they get him) and if they're not .500 going into the bye week (or playing well), they should Ja-Vince Young him and throw his ja-ass in the ja-game for the stretch.

dante already signed a one year deal with the raiders, basically to show if he can play starting qb in the league still, how long he or mccown are the starter depends on russell's development and if the raiders want him to sit and learn for a year (new school babying method) or throw him into the fire asap and learn from the bumps and bruises (ye old ass busting method) or the hybrid of letting the vet start for a few weeks and then making the switch mid season, most notably/recently like lienart, young and cutler

^While I'm a Raiders fan, I may agree with that. Our offensive situation plus the hardest schedule in the league will make us look a lot worse than we are.

Our defense is still going to be nasty, maybe even nastier than last year considering young players like Fabian Washington and Michael Huff have an extra year under their belts. Not to mention old geezers like Darius and Sapp, Sapp coming in fitter than ever like Maddie said. Anyone who beats us this year probably won't do so because our defense sucks.

On offense they made a few good signings on o-line, FB, and RB. I'm not convinced AT ALL about our o-line, so we'll see just how bad it is. I love the FB signing though, Griffith is one of the better ones in the league. I think Dominic Rhodes being signed was kind of pointless but we'll see about that too, especially since he's going to miss the first 4 games. In a crowded backfield, I hope one of our RB's can emerge as a feature back.

All in all, I won't attempt to guess our record. Some things you can count on, others you can't. I do think we will beat the Chiefs AT LEAST once, maybe both times, and win against the Broncos once. Our defense is going to be enough to keep us in a lot of games and give us potential to win tight ones. I just hope our offense can be decent enough not to totally double stuff us in the ass like it did last season.

Interesting piece I caught with Clayton on ESPN. He's saying the Raiders are still allegedly at the point in terms of the offer where Russell was saying "if that's the deal you're going to try and make, don't draft me" prior to the draft.

Has any rookie QB ever missed all of camp and still made an impact on his team his first year? That looks like where this could be headed.

I think Lions/Raiders will actually be a good game.

I think the Lions have a better team than us at this point, but I don't know how the Lions match up against us. We have one of the better defenses in the league and Detroit is supposed to have a good offense, but we'll see.

I mean I don't think any Lions fan can talk shit to an Oakland fan, I mean you guys won one more game than us last year and you have the privilege of playing in the NFC.

Several sources report that the delay has to do with the Raiders being able to recoup the signing bonus in the event that Russell pulls a Ryan Leaf, or a Pacman Jones. He's going to get 30 million in guaranteed money, but the Raiders want to be sure he's going to perform. This language is the same language that has been used in all the other top draft choices this year so I'm not sure what Russell's problem is but I think it has more to do with his agent than anything else.

Now I have also read that this kid wants around 40 million in guaranteed money. There is no way that is going to happen. I don't blame the Raiders at all for not signing him if this is the case. Personally I can't believe that anyone is worth more than 25 million. He's not going to make the same type of impact this year as Calvin Johnson or Joe Thomas but he wants to trump them in pay? Yeah whatever.

The truth is that he's not going to have much of an impact on the team this year. He's got a lot of raw skills but he needs some serious work in order to be a starter. The Raiders are comfortable with Josh Mcgown and it looks like Daunte might actually compete for the starting role. There is no way some rookie comes in and takes over. It's just not going to happen.

I think you might have the score backwards. Detroit drafted 5 defensive players this year, 3 of them cornerbacks. Your defense last year was horrible and it looks like you used the draft to try and rebuild it. You were the worst team in the league rushing the football, and make no mistake you are going to have to run in order to beat Oakland at home. You play in the weakest conference in the league, yet somehow still managed to only win what was it 4 games? Now I suppose that you're all excited about the prospect of Kitna with Calvin Johnson, but I don't see Calvin doing so well in his first week. I think he is going to need some time to figure out the NFL.

The bottom line is that if the Raiders can't beat Detroit, at home, on opening day, then it's going to be a REALLY long season.

And this is the problem with drafting for need at #1 rather than the best available talent. His ego and his agent tell him that he deserves more strictly because of the Raiders were a bit deficient in the QB area.

I agree. I'm fine with the JaMarcus pick because yes we need a quarterback and I think he was the best available in the draft. I would have prefered that we went after Calvin Johnson though because I really think he has the most talent. Especially now that we have McGown and Culpepper.

Seriously, if I was a Raider fan the only number I'd be hoping for is 6.

6 wins? Nope.
6th pick in next years draft? No.
6 feet under? Yes.

Because that's where your owner with his 1970's jogging suits & 1930's glasses must be for the team to have an actual chance at any type of success. The game passed him by about 10 Heisman trophy signees ago.
