Abdul Tawala Ibn Ali Alishtari, 53, of 472 Ashford Ave. was arrested in New York City by agents with the Joint Terrorism Task Force of the FBI and New York City Police Department. An indictment was unsealed yesterday in U.S. District Court in New York charging Alishtari, who claims to be a banker, with financing terrorism, material support of terrorism, money laundering, wire fraud and conspiracy.

You're right. $300,000 in one lump sum is equivalent to $14k and some change spread out over multiple years.

I'm doing a tap dance, alright. Just to the music the former President of the United States is playing.

Oh, standard disclaimer (because if it isn't in here, you'll decry me for supporting terrorism), if any impropriety is uncovered due to an investigation, there should be charges leveled and punishment doled out to the offenders if found guilty of said impropriety.

Aside from the obvious? Charlie Trie, one guy, brought 460k to Clinton in suspicious $1k donations at one time. Then he and his family ponied up $220k to the DNC shortly after. So we're talking about 680k versus less than 20k. Then there is also the question of what did this paltry donation buy. There appeared to be firm evidence that there was some influence that was purchased under Clinton's watch.

Don't get me wrong, I'm guessing for over a half a mil you could probably buy some influence from Bush too.... But I seriously doubt with the way the republicans raise money that 20k would even get you a minute of time.

In the big picture, what is half a million dollars really going to get you in terms of influence? A 30-second TV campaign spot? IF that? Is that really worth the risk of ANY politician's career?

Which is my point... all of our pols are for sale. A point lost on those who think this is a partisan post. All pols sell their souls and principles, I would say the only thing that changes is the buyer but I have a feeling if you dig deep enough that the GOP has as much if not more Chinese money as Clinton and the DNC has as much money from AQ.

I freely admit I'm a Libertarian party hack. Guilty as charged. And I shouldn't have called him a hack. Instead, I should have said we can now fully appreciate how deeply Fish has drank from the Dean cool aid cauldron. He's drawn a ridiculous comparison between dissimilar events, then baited his opposition to deny the comparison. (Although given the regular personal attacks out of some of our posters, and our mods blind eye toward them, does it really matter?)
