I'd be happy if John Bolton wasn't sounding the alarm over the draft.
Waiting for more details before making up my mind.

Aye this is a "believe it when we see it" kinda deal.
Frankly I think Mr. Kim is playing again unless PRC has cinched the leash a bit. -Ed |

Isn't the official acronym ROC? Anywho, NK seemed to be getting squeezed more effectively this time 'round.

I guessed that Ed meant PRC = People's Republic of China. I only meant that I think the proper abbreviation is in fact ROC. But now I'm not sure. Just
so it's clear, I was estimating that it was the Chinese who were squeezing NK rather than South Korea doing the squeezing. (Sunshine policy and all
that...)

I think North Korea is PRK -- People's Republic of Korea. ROC is Taiwan.
The "new" deal is basically just a retooled version of the old deal we've had or wanted to have with NK for a long time. I don't really know that it has been like that to keep the peace or to just keep the status quo. Basically NK is crammed into a really shitty region and we don't care about them other than when they try to stir up shit. As much as they pretend that the US and SK are poised to invade and take their country at any minute, it's just not true. You can't even grow rice up there, I don't even know what SK would do if NK fell into their control. Maybe build ski resorts. I don't care one way or the other. We can bribe them if it makes things easier for us. But half of me wants to just say "go ahead" and let them do whatever the hell they want to do. Right up until the point we catch them selling nukes, then we can bring that to the attention of the world and nobody will care when we send them back to whatever age came before the Stone Age, since they are kind of already there. |

Here it is, the much anticipated and long awaited Graz nuclear doctrine. No quarter, no discussions, nuclear proliferation ends right now. Any country pushing
a nuclear agenda without free and unobstructed international inspections to assure peaceful use, is hereby put on notice. If countries pursue a nuclear weapons
program they get one free nuclear weapon from the US. It will be delivered without warning to their capital. Citizens are now accountable for their
governments. If your nations leaders are the kind of asshats pursuing nuclear weapons, you get to remove them or you get a very rapid tan. After the first one
is delivered, I doubt we'll have another problem.

They ought to just send that video to countries like Iran and NK. It's meant as a left-leaning ad against nuclear proliferation, but it makes me go "badass" in kind of a Cartman voice. No need to limit our gift to one nuclear weapon, we have plenty to go around. |

Well reading the details it seems like a good agreement. Assuming of course that NK lives up to their obligations. In the words of Reagan I believe it was;
trust but verify.

Bush is gonna find out what Clinton and we all found out last time we exchanged fuel oil for nuclear concessions. You can't trust this fucker. The next
president will have to do with another crisis in exchange for money and fuel oil. So we can stop the he said she said political BS on NK until the next time
around.

The cat is already out of the bag there. Nothing you can do. You apply the doctorine to up and comers and work on disarmament on the others, as well as ourself. peace,
The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself? Husband, Father, Squisher of bugs.

Couldn't we make an exception for Israel since they haven't formally announced their nuclear program? And does anybody seriously believe that Russia or
China is going to just stand by as America threatens nations such as Iran with nuclear attacks? I think not. Bravado is nice, but the rest of us live in the
real world. The folks who like the idea of this policy should consider joining the rest of us here in "reality."

America threatens nations such as Iran with nuclear attacks?i dont believe in threatening anybody with nuclear attacks, for any reason. as much as i hate arguments through analogy, i guess i frame this one up as standard fare firearm ownership. you don't threaten to shoot somebody in a defense situation, you just do it. in the same vein, threating nations with nuclear attack does not discourage development of nuclear arsenals, it only encourages it. frankly, i dont think this plan is worth the paper its printed on. north korea has a substantial economic and energy crisis and this is yet another bribe for them to keep going. once the current crisis is over, NK will go back to their behind the scenes doomsday work. in short, fuck 'em. if china wants to see NK continue to function let them pay for it out of their trade surplus. securing our safety and the safety of our allies in the region is not going to be accomplished by bribery with an opponent who simply cannot be trusted. |
