Warhammer, is it really worth it? |
Lead | ||

So I know there's an NDA and all, but for anyone that's currently in beta, which I'm pretty sure is ok to admit under NDA, is it really worth it to
pre-order the Warhammer CE?

Likezoz, you need to remember that the game is still in beta, so they would be basing their judgement on a unfinished game. But from what I have heard, all the WoW fanboys are saying it will fail, but other people are saying it is quite good. |

Yea I know, but I'll still take early opinions. 80 bucks is alot to spend on a game that has a good chance to fail like every other MMO, let's hope my
comic book code gets me into beta.

having played their tabletop games for years (admittedly it has been a few years since we stopped) i'd like to think that they would be able to put
together a quality mmo

Theoretically if I was in beta I'd be having a good time. You know, in theory. Damn shame I'm not in it. *whistles innocently*

As with ANY new to release MMO, unless you are positive you will be playing it enough to get your moneys worth, or have the money to waste..... Wait until the
full reviews are out a good 3-5 weeks AFTER launch.
I plan to wait for a free trial period or buddy trial key for AoC and WarHammer. Buying in early never makes since to me for MMOs, unless you are a masochist. Too many bugs, too many tards, too many balance issues. And ALL three of those issues will pop up with in the first month of ANY MMO launch. |

WAR i think is going to be one of the biggest MMOs out. Firstly it has the best publicity I have ever seen for an MMO. It has a name almost as well known as
Warcraft and due to the Warhammer universe going for over 20(?) years is going to be one of the best plotted MMOs ever.
On top of that they have made RvR central to the game, not a sideline like Dark age of Camelot or a sub game like WOW. Also it looks like they have made this work really well, leveling up your cities, specific RvR zones and world RvR fully integrated. From what they promise this is going to be a really good system with actual tactical play in the game rather than random gankings or heavily stacked 'matches' found in most over games that have tried to do PvP. Realising that good PvP that actually means something is the best way to get people to interact is the big idea behind WAR and im sure its going to be a winner because of this. I can't think of any other true MMO where you can level up a character and gain significant equipment doing world PvP. So its going to appeal a lot to the PvP lovers (obviously) but also to people who like PvE because they can get the rewards status etc by doing RvR and also have the whole organisational/skill thing that they like too. Even Role Players are going to be happy as they have all the motivation they need to play just like anyone else and not feel weird ! Hell, this game probably encourages role players more than any other MMO to date. I would geuess that a lot of people are going to defect from WoW for this game. When it comes out WoW is going to be on its third expansion, they have not evolved the basic game play and by adding more character levels are just killing off the content that they have already created. WAR won't break WoW but I do think it is going to be good enough to lure away a lot of thier hardcore players.

second expansion but third generation i guess is one way to put it. pre tbc wow is basically just leveling up now, rag, nef and that god in AQ40 must be
getting really bored, about as bored as all the bosses in tbc will be after the new expansion comes out... wow is not a bad game, but i think that moving up
the level cap 10 levels every expansion and starting the raiding tiers over each time is a big flaw.
thats basically why im looking for something different to try. dunno how many other wow players feel that way. |

Err yeah third generation thats what I meant for sure.... Second expansion but you get the point.
I really think they should never have put up the level cap in WOW, just added more content and better equipment etc. Its way too easy to max your characters level so 2/3 of the game will get skipped by most people when the second expansion comes out. Raising levels worked well for EQ because it used to be difficult to gain xp so the older content would always be used. Virtually all the equipment I got raiding in WOW for over a year was made obselete overnight when the level cap was raised and will be agian when the level goes up to 80 with the new expansion. So every year or so with WOW all the progress I make is effectivly reduced by 90%, basically its like starting again. This would be fine for a single player game but I think for a MMO I want all the content to count for something and not just a reset every year or so.

EQ had an interesting dynamic that way until POP I guess. People mostly had to do old world bosses to get the drops to do Kunark stuff, to do Velious to do
Luclin, and then POP came and everything before it became meaningless. I mostly blame the art of zerg and we'll see if WAR can change the dynamic.

except for the raid content that had a whole bunch of time put into it, after tbc how many times was MC run? thats a ton of dev hours that will never be

True. EQ's raid content really didn't get thrown out the window too much, esp when they put the epic quest mobs in the old planes
But alot of guilds did Skip VT to avoid the FCFS and hit the first pop bosses instead so there was some content skippage. Not sure how it is today in eq if doing the old raid areas is requird to progress or not

still pop was the fourth expansion, so for a while kunark, velious and luclin were all utilized in a progression scheme. pop changed things alot and then oow
and god seemed to kill wow to me.
wow jumped out the gate great but when i look at tbc it seems to have done as much harm to wow for me as good. |

BC pushed the gear goal posts too far down the road. I didn't even start WoW until well after BC came out, but it's extremely obvious they back loaded
61-70 with too much of a stat upgrade with raid content requiring huge stat changes. If they'd made it a much more gradual change all the old raid zones
wouldn't be abandoned. If WotLK has the same sort of stat progression I think they are making a huge mistake. People need old content to remain relevant so
there's more to do.

I think with TBC they did alot of +STA adjustments on items and we probably won't see that kind of jump in the next expansion

i dunno, even if the sta changes hadnt been made, the gear upgrades were still noticeable when greens from leveling quests were giving better agi and spell
damage and whatnot than gear from mc and bwl. they actively wanted to remove the difference between the raiders and the people who got to level 60 and sat in
ironforge chatting in trade all day. frankly id be surprised if they didnt do that again for wotlk considering the level cap increase.

They have said that with WotlK they dont plan to make the gear stat mistake they did with BC. Instead they have made badges and PvP epics the
"equalizers". Theres no reason that by the time WotlK launches you can't have a ton of epic gear to even the field.
