So he thinks is can put his wife out to campaign, she can make a really bad gaffe (at best - I have to wonder if it was a true admission), and the other side quoting her is unreasonable? If he hadn't had here out campaigning, I could go along with a hands off request - but you got her involved in politics, so now it matters and is fair game. He needs to get over it. When McCain's wife does the same, she'll be just as fair game. More so because her husband isn't the darling of the media. You know, I don't really know what Obama thinks is going to happen when the general election gets here, but so far, he's faced slow pitch softball campaign attacks, almost all of which originated with the Clinton campaign who can't afford to be really nasty lest they alienate fellow party members. But once the general campaign begins, the gloves will come off. The 527s are going to be mercilous and every flaw, real or imagined, will be revealed and expounded on. The McCain camp may stay completely out of it, but that wont' stop other party faithful from pouncing. Ayers has barely been mentioned at this point, but will likely become a big issue during the general election. And Rezko will too. Every single time either candidate opens his mouth, Moveon or whoever the new Swiftboat Vets is this time around are going to crucify him for it. Don't forget to mention that she was also investigated for stealing drugs to support the habit. I have no reluctance for someone to talk about her. You have reluctance to admit that Michelle stuck her foot in her mouth and Cindy has not. I'm sure at some point someone will try to mention Cindy's addiction. The new about McCain using his wife's corporate jet at an absurdly discount rate to ferry him between campaign stops has been out for a while now. Have you seen it blow up on these boards? Cindy McCain's drug addiction has been known for a while. She was stealing drugs from a non-profit medical relief organization for chrissakes. Have these things ever come up on these forums? The threads made criticizing John McCain have been about his words and policies and past actions. The threads made here about Obama are silly personal attacks, attacks on those around him, attempts to associate him with other people. Perhaps most of you don't want to criticize his policies because then you'd actually have to do a little reading and wouldn't be able to perpetuate the nonsense about him having no ideas without lying outright.

The republicans take the "don't talk about our guy's issues" approach ... Democrats take the "complain about what they're saying about our guy" approach. So, that reflects quite obviously on the boards. Don't want to see lots of threads about Obama? Don't start a bunch, or simply don't participate. Personally, I dislike both of your big parties ... but the republicans have their shit together way better in terms of dealing with bad publicity and negative opinion (i.e. don't talk about it and it'll go away).
