Well, all I can say is that it really doesn't even feel like the Bruins made the playoffs this year. Things just look that bad. Their season should be
over on Tuesday... or whenever game 4 ends.
In the meantime, I'll do my best to remain supportive.... go Bruins... yay!

As much as I hate the Bruins as a division rival, they deserved to win this series every bit as much as Montreal. The B's played with more grit and heart,
and that's what the playoff hockey is about. The Habs are the more talented team but their coasting through games 2-6 made me sick to my stomach and I
wouldn't have been surprised to see them lose game 7. Koivu and Price are about the only two players whose performance I'm happy with, and if the rest
of the team can't show up in the 2nd round Philly or the Rangers will make short work of them.

Well, I have to say that making it to game seven was a surprize. I've very happy with the Bruins season this year. They worked though some petty rough
injuries. They made the playoffs with basically the same team as last year. They came back from being down 3 games to 1 to take the conference champs to game
seven. Winning game seven would have been gravy, but really, they were not a cup contender this year anyway. Advancing in the playoffs is really just a way
of prolonging the inevitable. I also have to say that the handshaking at the end of the game was one of the classiest displays I have seen. I would love to
know what Thomas said to Carey Price. He had that trademark ear to ear smile on his face... even though he lost. I love my Bruins.
Recently Siarhei Kostitsyn was asked what he thought about the possibility of Montreal facing the Bruins in the playoffs and his only response was giggling.I wonder if he giggled all the way to game seven? My advice to him would be simply that you can't take anyone for granted in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. It the hardest championship to win in all of sports. Look at this past series. How many games were decided by one goal? 4 of 7!!! Montreal may have swept the Bruins in the regular season 8 games to 0, but the truth of their playoff experience with Boston is that the Habs barely survived. Boston improved immensely this season. The future is bright.

I was happier with the effort the younger Kostitsyn put through most of the series compared to most Montreal forwards. His older brother, Plekanec, Kovalev
and most of Montreal's D looked lost out there for most of games 2-6.
The radio interview was pretty poor context, and when I quoted it their playoff matchup hadn't been decided. The interviewer had a bit of a screw loose and to Sergei's credit he was laughing with most of the questions. It is true that most of the team and their fans took the Bruins for granted, and it almost cost them. The whole time I was watching the outcome of the games I was reminded of 2002, only the sides were reversed. The Bruins played a great series, and I was especially impressed with Thomas, Lucic and Kessel. If Kessel hadn't been scratched early, and there was a healthy Kobasew and Bergeron I'm not confident Montreal would be making it to the second round. I would have really liked to hear what Thomas was saying to Price too. Lucic is just awesome, and if he wore any other sweater I'm sure I'd be rooting for whatever team he played for. |

Nostalgia overload with the Montreal vs Boston series. I remember watching the old teams with Carbonneau, Courtnall, Richer, Roy, Cassels etc etc vs Moog,
Borque, Neely, Oates etc etc. There is no better rivalry than Montreal and Boston.
Great series. I don't think that Montreal "coasted" at all. No one coasts in the playoffs. Boston just put it all out there knowing that playing hockey is much better than golfing. I actually watch NHL hockey again because of this series. I haven't since the 90s. I was also against the redline offside changes, but it sure has made the game much more entertaining with huge swings in offensive/defensive control and it keeps the goaltenders on their toes all the time. Before the change the goalies would be sleeping until someone actually made it into the zone with no offside calls. |

By coasted I merely meant Montreal didn't take the Bruins as seriously as they should have after game one and again till game seven. Montreal played the
series with the same intensity level they played the regular season, where they beat Boston in all 8 games, while Boston took their play to another level.
Other than the Smolinski line most of Montreal's forwards looked like they'd play one or two good shifts and then were invisible the rest of the game.
Granted a lot of that is due to Boston dictating the pace of the game, but after watching well over half of Montreal's regular season games this year I
honestly think their players can do a lot better than that. Markov and Plekanec especially, as they were pretty much invisible the entire series.

Sadly, Montreal is getting handled like a bunch of Novices right now.
Much dislike for my team right now. 3-0. I have a feeling it will end up a 5-0 shutout before the game ends. |

Montreal is out :(
I was watching the last game and I commented on how EVERY loose puck seemed to get taken by Philly. This is how you lose a game. The commentators seemed to have the same reasons for Montreal's horrible performance. Well, it wasn't horrible - they just didn't fight for the puck as much as they should have and that will lose you the game no matter how good the team is. Philly seemed to have more "lucky bounces" as well. Some of those goals they got in this series made my "WTF" eyebrow raise :p Better luck next year I guess. |

Looking for a Penguins sweep tonight... I think the loss at home really deflated the Flyers and they'll go pretty quietly tonight. It was pretty amazing
how the homer crowd was taken out of the game early and stayed virtually silent for the rest of the night.
Would be nice if the Stars can continue to put up a fight and drag that series out so Pittsburgh can get a little extra rest. I honestly was expecting Detroit to sweep. DET - PIT will probably be one of the better finals in a while, good chance it'll go the full 7 games, especially with the Penguins playing so well defensively right now.

Gotta say I was gravely mistaken about the Flyers being back on their heels after going down 3-0. However, Game 5 proved that I think they had no hope of
coming back in that series on the road. The 6-0 game five was a veritable ass-whuppin', and the Flyers pretty much just rolled over and took it. Thankfully
Monday is Memorial day, so I don't have school that evening, but I will be in class until about 9:30 on Wednesday, so I'll be missing the first part of
Game 3, dammit. I'd record it on my DVR, but watching a recorded sporting event just seems so lame to me.
Anyway, definitely shaping up to be a true hockey specatacle... both teams are really peaking at the right time, and as much as I'm a Pens homer, I don't know how this series will turn out. It's even more interesting considering the Pens and Red Wings didn't play each other in the regular season, so there's not even that basis of comparison.

I watch games recorded on DVR sometimes. I watched most of the Habs Bruins series that way. It is kinda lame, but if you don't pay any attention to any
reports and approach it in complete ignorance, you can get caught up in it and forget that it's pre-recorded. You can also skip commercials and
intermissions... which is a plus. But yeah, it's not quite the same.
I hope that Franzen is back soon. That's guy is very cool. It is hard to pick a winner. I think the natural choice is the Wings with their experience. I'm torn. I like both teams. Did you know that, if the Red Wings win, it will be the first time in history that a Stanley Cup winning team has been captained by a European? It will be only the second time that a non-Canadian captain has won the cup. Hatcher did it with Dallas in 1999. He grew up in Michigan right near the Canadian border. So we have a bit of national and even continental rivalry happening here. I like both Lidstrom and Crosby. I think we're all winners with this final.

Pens got worked hard in Game 1 and Game 2 is looking like more of the same. I hope the Pens aren't counting on home ice, because I think they're
forgetting they only get three games on home ice. I'd really hate to see them get swept, but at this rate I gotta say my hope is waning fast. They do seem
to have stepped things up a bit in the second period here (of Game 2), but will it be enough?

I thought the Pens were done for sure. They just won game 5 in triple OT. I'm going to bed now.

That reminded me of the Pens - Flyers series that went deep into OT and they finally lost. Feels good to get one back and hopefully they can ride that for 2
more games.

Last night I did pretty much the same, except I tossed and turned because of excitement. The odds are still very much against it, but the Penguins could realistically pull this off, and coming back from 3-1 to win the cup aside, it would still be one of the most exciting series in recent history. The action has been electrifying on both sides throughout this series. Amazing goaltending, incredible scoring chances, big hits, fast pace... Considering some of the TV ratings numbers being the highest ever, the NHL has got to be praying for this to go 7 games.

The Pens are a good team that may verry well be great team in years to come, but not this year. There is no way they will be able to hold that team together. Hossa is gone for sure in the off season. In the years to come, there is no way they'll be able to hold on to all of those young players. Malkin, Crosby, Staal, Malone, Whitney, and Fleury will all draw a high dollar once they hit the open free agent market. Even so, yes, they should be good as long as they can plug in some decent talent around whatever core of players they decide on.

Eleazarr wrote: Ill agree with that to some extent but the salary cap will help a lot. You see a lot of teams being able to lock up their young stars for a lot of years. To me though the only players on that list that MUST be resigned if Im Pittsburgh is Crosby and Fluery. They are true superstars in the making and in this NHL are the only $7MM a year players on the team. Malkin reminds me of Sergei Federov. All that talent, no heart. Staal and Whitney are very nice players but not irreplaceable like Crosby and Fluery. They lock up Fluery and Crosby and others will want to come to Pittsburgh to play with them. That said, How about them Red Wings!Cant say they bought this Stanley Cup, they just showed why they are the superior team and best organization in hockey. Look where their players came from, they have the premier scouting department in the NHL and maybe all of sports. The core of that team was developed in house over the years. Lidstrom is the glue, probably one of the top 10 greatest players in the history of the game although most wont see it that way because he doesnt have the gaudy scoring totals but he is an elite defenseman. Zetterberg is one of the top 5 players in the NHL IMO, he is a complete player. Glad to see he was the MVP To be honest though Fluery is scary. A little more experience and he will be great |

I agree as well. I'm not sold on Malkin as the next great thing... he did such a fade in the finals until that last game. Of course the rumors are swirling
now that he was playing not only with a "flu-like" condition, but also some broken ribs, and not trying to take away from him or his season, but
it's just a little too convenient. Something was definitely wrong with him, that was plain to see, but was it enough to excuse not showing up in the most
important games of your professional career so far? I don't think so.
Still, gotta hand it to the Wings, there was no question they were the better team.
