Wasn't exactly intending to be so tongue-in-cheek in my last post. Diversity is one of the reasons cheerleaders aren't as "hot" as they once were, but another reason is lawsuits. Even back when I was in high school - 79-82 - we had lawsuits concerning cheerleaders. One of my classmates, who wasn't particularly good looking or that good of a cheerleader either, did not make the cut at the tryouts. Since she had been a cheerleader for the local pop warner football teams since she was very young, her parents just could not fathom how she didn't have what it takes to cheer for the high school. Rather than accepting that she just wasn't good enough, they sued the school. The school caved and let her on the squad. All was fine until her senior year when she didn't get selected to be the team captain. Again, mommy and daddy to the rescue to fire off another lawsuit. This time, the school didn't cave.

Without doing a web search, I would bet you could easily find similiar lawsuits filed throughout the US.

Just confirmed my earlier assumption. Did a Google search with the keywords of cheerleader, squad and lawsuit. Seven out of the first ten were lawsuits being taken out due to someone's precious child being denied a place on the cheerleading squad. There was even one girl who was getting kicked off the squad for being pregnant, yet mommy and daddy wanted to take out a lawsuit. Crazy.

Looks like they will be tried as adults. Smart move. Anyone care to guess how many of them plea out rather than go to trial?
