yeah that is really shocking, I thought he would definitely return [even though I didn't think he should have still been playing =)]

Not shocked. Better to go out on a great season than slip back into the mediocrity of the previous few.
Obviously an all time great, I'm just a little happy I no long have to hear the Sunday/Monday Night crews verbally fellate him 10 times a year. |

Silly to base his retirement on whether green bay could get moss

early 90s.

The real question is... "What's Madden going to do without saying Brent Farve 50 billions times this season?"
But anyway my hats off to Brent one heck of a QB.

I don't think that there has ever been a player with as much love for the game as #4.

Not surprised at all. I expected it after coming so close to the superbowl. He stands to make alot more money broadcasting and commentating. It's also alot
easier on the body.

He stands to make alot more money broadcasting and commentating. Which network has an opening? Holy criminy, do we really need to have 8-member panels of ex-player talking heads to cover halftime? Aren't there already more ex-players and ex-coaches weighing in with their worthless opinions and commentary already? I mean, Deion Sanders still has a job as a commentator, for Christ's sake, and he can barely speak in coherent English sentences (not to mention the fact that you can barely see him through all the hookers and bling). Is another "former NFL great" really what some NFL coverage team needs? |

If someone kills Chris Collinsworth they'll all have openings. |

Well, Jesus fucking Christ. Apparently NOTHING else is happening today in the entire world of sports. No ESPN for me for the next day or two.

Obviously an all time great, I'm just a little happy I no long have to hear the Sunday/Monday Night crews verbally fellate him 10 times a year. This will probably still go on, at least with John Madden. John Madden is still talking about Barry Sanders pretty often. Sad to see Bret go, but he went on near the top, so I can't blame him. |

Well it's obvious that he'll have a job waiting for him in broadcasting, but I was still a little shocked that he's retiring. It's great that
he's going out on such a great season though. Hats off to him. Madden can talk about him all he wants. He's a great quarterback. Why do you guys really
care whether they talk about him all the time or not.

I'm not going to add much, because I'm a Favre fanboi ;)
I will miss watching him play. And Fed, maybe you are tired of listening to unquantifiable statements like that, but I can't help it if it is true. How many players do you see these days that really enjoy what they do? Not the eating popcorn-while-signing-a-ball-with-a-sharpie-pulled-from-your-sock kind of fun, but the real enjoyment of the game itself? I count....on two hands the players I think play the way he does. Anyway, it's good to se him taking time for his family and friends. Those things, too, are important to him. It's pretty cool to watch him walk off into the sunset =) |

Why do you guys really care whether they talk about him all the time or not.Because it gets fucking old. Ray Lewis was a great LB, I got tired of hearing him fucking mentioned 20 times a game on SNF whether or not the Ravens were playing. Barry Sanders is one of my favorite all time athletes, and in my opinion the best RB to ever play, that doesn't mean I want to hear John Madden compare any RB playing in every single game to him. And Bret Favre is one of the better QB's ever, and I don't want to hear massive dick riding from announcers in any game he's in or not in. Commentators should do just that, commentate on the game they're broadcasting. Not give on-air blowjobs the entire game. It's irritating week in and week out to hear the same few players praised the entire game, whether they're actually playing in that game or not. Why even have announcers? Just play a fucking hymn book dedicated to Favre, Sanders, and Ray-Ray every game and be done with it if that's all you have planned. |

Learn to use the MUTE function. It'll work wonders for those that feel the commentary isn't up to par.

If management not making a play for Moss really played into his retirement (which I doubt), he's sort of being a baby. Retire because you're an all time great and want to go out on a high note, not because you can't have another toy. |

i havent heard many commentators bring up ray lewis, unless the ravens were playing, for the past 3 years or so. there was a time when yeah, even i was a bit
annoyed with them bringing up ray so often, but it hasnt been that way for a while. ed reed on the other hand is sometimes brough up when talking about top
safeties... but people dont often talk about safeties, beyond bob sanders and ed.

That's just like, your opinion man.Mine and millions of other fans. MILLIONS. I don't think that the Jets have that many fans for all of their players, not just a single player. Sorry if your piss poor team has been rubbing you raw, and your GM has been making shit-ass trades/deals for a decade. It doesn't help that your Yankees and your Nicks have terrible troubles the lest 5 years. It doesn't mean you have to take it out on a guy like Favre. you're a hater to be contrarian. Disliking for dis liking's sake. Have fun with that. Retire because you're an all time great and want to go out on a high note, not because you can't have another toy.Right, God forbid you want to compete and make your team better. It's tough when you need something to put you over that edge and you are looking for a positive change to anything. You're right; Favre is a selfish guy and should have retired after his first SuperBowl victory. Great job on being a fan of the game and those that keep the institution a game and not just another multi-billion dollar industry sucking our last dollar from our pocket. Terrible that someone finds fun and enjoyment out of this game, still. Terrible. |

I personally think Favre should have played another season or 2. I don't think he really matured as a played until the past few years. He finally got rid
of that idiotic gunslinger attitude and started to let his team work with him. He could come back next year and be even better than this past year imo, he
himself is the only part of the offense that isn't returning.
But he's an old man by football standards, who can blame him for retiring when he just led a team deep into the playoffs? Not me, and I'm a hater any chance I get for anything in sports. GB had a good chance, even as good as NE's chance I'd say, to land Randy Moss, and they dropped the ball. Favre called them out on it, so would any other QB... GB should have had Moss and they didn't. The one thing I will call Favre out on is the Javon Walker deal. Walker is a pro-bowl receiver and Favre's biggest weapon and he's making shit in football terms for a salary. Like anyone else, Walker wants what he's due, yet Favre comes out vocally instead of supporting him, he bashes him and says he should play for the shit rookie (middle 1st round) contract he signed. That was on some bullshit. At the same time Favre is making money like that rich fuck from Duck Tales swi | ||||
