Any thoughts/predictions? I think Romney will pull some votes out, and I think Obama is going to come out the big wiener on the Dems side.

I predict that Super Tuesday will leave us with no clear winner in either party.

I think it'll be close enough in delegates that no one will be a clear winner, as well. Hillary and Romney will do well enough to prevent Obama and McCain
from wrapping up their party's nominations.

McCain will take a commanding lead. Hillary and Obama will be too close to call.
http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2008/02/corzine_cant_vote_because_of_p.html My thoughts on this are 1) Corzine lives in Hoboken? 2) lol at his unholy vote for Hillary being thwarted by our broken ass machinery and 3) I'm pretty sure that's not my polling station. |

I call McCain for the republicans, and the democrats won't have a nominee yet.

given delegates aren't usually winner take all, i think we'll close today without a clear winner in either.
i'll predict a win for romney in california though. |

Went to my local polling place at lunch. With only 1 local item on the ballot, it was a quick process. Was there for less than five minutes total. Living in
small town does have an advantage at times :)

I was at mine for roughly 5 minutes as well.
They made me declare a party though and Marxist Whore wasn't available. WTF. That threw me for a loop obviously, but I did regain composure enough to declare and score one point for afro-centrism. |

Fed. question for you please.
Why did they make you pick a party? I'm only asking because I"m a registered ind and would like to vote for a dem. As I understand it (damn my ignorance for all these years) I can only vote for an ind. Am I incorrect? |

i think it depends on if the primary (of whichever party you want to vote for) in your state is open or closed...

New Jersey has a semi-open primary which means that if you're not already affiliated with either of the two major parties, you can declare at the polling
station. I'm not sure how registered Independents are handled as I'm technically a "no party" voter.

Is there a difference in 'no party' and 'independent'?
I'm registered independent.

It depends on the state. Some of them recognize Independent as a party itself, in which case you wouldn't be able to switch affiliations on the day of the
primary. If you're undeclared, you can choose whichever party you want at the station... again, depending on the state and how their primary works.
Edit: If I remember correctly, NJ registration has two lines for affiliation, a write-in section for your party of choice and another line for no affiliation. There is no Independent check box so if you did write in Independent instead of checking no affiliation, you're then a member of the Independent political party.

My sample ballot only shows Independent candidates, so I think I'm outta luck today. I happen to live in a state where it should be really close, wish I
had more foresight.

Looks like Huckleberry takes WV, thanks to all the McCain supporters going over the his side to screw Romney.

Please do not let this guy (Huckabee) be MCCain's VP choice...Huckabee's sole purpose for staying in the race is to draw votes from Romney at this point. If McCain wants the nomination, he'd have been smart to do just that in order to keep him in. |

Here in CO we have to go to a caucus in our area. We can't just vote. Sigh. I bet it takes hours.

If you guys really are independent or "no party" voters, why would you give three shits about voting in the primary of parties you aren't
affiliated with? If you care enough to legitimately want one candidate over another in a specific party that's the party you should be registered as, since
it implies that you are supporting that party over the other before the fact -- which is more or less the definition of party affiliation. If you think you
should be able to vote in both primaries, you're on drugs.

Watching the results roll in now.
What strikes is the margins on the dem side. Both Hillary and Obama are winning by huge margins. I'm also surprised by Huckabee's success in the South. Maybe I should have anticipated it but I didn't.

If you guys really are independent or "no party" voters, why would you give three shits about voting in the primary of parties you aren't affiliated with?Because your state is different than mine. The only benefit to declaring a party is the ability to vote in the primaries, which until this year has been a mostly meaningless exercise in New Jersey since it's traditionally held in June, long after the candidates have already been chosen. A typical election year was 2004 when Bush ran unopposed and Kerry already had the nomination by the time the primary took place. I've never needed to declare before today. If you think you should be able to vote in both primaries, you're on drugs. The fox is on the wing in Sector Y. My sentence has about as much bearing on this thread as yours since no one implied such a thing.

I changed from being a registered republican to independent purely out of frustration with the current administration. I tend to not vote along party lines
anyway, but rather the candidate I like best.

Only chaos I saw was someone holding up a sign that said 'Hobroken' outside the station near my place when I got home from work.
I thought that was funny. :) |
