I'm looking to buy a supercrew truck and wondering if anyone here has owned a Ford truck. The F-150 is what I'm wanting, I like the look of it and
I've driven one to the beach and back and I really liked it.
I suppose my question is if they give trouble or not? I have an '01 Civic right now and I don't want to trade it in for something that's going to
fuck up or break down frequently, because the only thing I've ever had to do for the Civic is replace an $80 cam sensor in the 6 years I've had it.
Gas mileage isn't really an issue because I don't drive a lot of miles anymore, and I'm willing to lose 10 mpg or whatever. I'm just tired of
having a girl's car and want a truck.
Any feedback appreciated!

I currently drive an '03 Dodge Ram 5.7L HEMI Quad Cab 4x4, but I've owned a few Ford trucks in the past. I have always had great luck with Fords. Super
dependable, solid ride, solid feel and reliable. I love my dodge, but i have nothing but good experience with the fords that i've owned. I only went with a
dodge this time because i love the looks, the size, the power and the hemi. It's been a nice change of pace. I'd buy another F150 in a heartbeat.

My only experience with Ford trucks was an '87 Ford Ranger, and it soured me on Ford products (I had numerous problems with the engine, including a few
snapped timing belts and the resulting bent rods, and eventually the whole engine seized on me). On the other hand, my dad has an '04 F-150 and it's
been pretty dependable for him. Of course, he only has 24,000 miles on it...

Yah fey, those older model rangers were shit. I owned a 94 ranger and that thing was wonderful.. I think ford has really stepped it up over the past 15 years
or so. Ofcourse theres gonna be some hit & miss batches in different model batches, but the mid 90's models and the current batch of ford trucks are
worth the drive.

I've had two ford trucks in my time and have had good experiences with both of them. One being a 1989 F-250 and one being a 1996 F-150.
If I were to buy a truck today, I'd buy a Ford simply because of the experiences I had with their solid drivetrain and chassis. |

When my brother was 16 (1980), he bought a Ford truck (no, I don't remember the year but it was already a couple of years old) and it still is the workhorse that he bought it to be (he is a landscape designer so he has 4 trucks and is constantly hauling and pulling heavy loads). I know that he has replaced the engine but otherwise, that monster just keeping running. My husbands Ford Mustang (2000) has given him very little trouble in the seven years that he owned it- and the only reason that I did not buy a Ford this time is because while I wanted a little car with fold-down seats, the salesman kept trying to convince me I wanted something bigger (and more expensive) so Chevy got my business this time. All in all, I would say that Ford makes two good things: good working trucks and Mustangs.

Good to hear those things about the F-150's. I'm currently looking around, trying to find something in the '01-'05 range.
and bleh about Mustangs. They haven't been cool since the 5.0 era fox body imo. |

I currently have a 2006 F150 Super Crew and I love it. It pulls my boat with no problems and I still get 20mpg on the expressway.
Ive owned Ford trucks for the last 20 years and while Im not a die Ford owner it would be my first choice. In fact I use to be a die hard Chevy driver until my brother was able to get me the A Plan from Ford. Ask any questions you have but things I can tell you up front is the 302 motor has been around forever and if you keep the oil changed you will easily get well over 150K miles on it, easily. If you purchase the 6 cylinder its a 300, that motor is probably the best 6 cylinder ever made. I had a 78 Ford that had well over 244K miles and had never been rebuilt. If you can afford and want a diesel the Power Stroke diesel is also an excellent motor. I have 3 different friends that have over 300K on the original motors and have only had to replace glow plugs and the controller and they beat the shit out of their trucks. My currently is an red '06 with four doors and the short bed on it. Its moderately equipt. When the lease is up I will buy (not leasing this time) an '08 Super Crew with some more interior options. Im considering getting the Power Stroke because Id like to upgrade the size of my boat from 18' to 22-25' and the one I want is still trailerable. I love the 4 doors because its easy to get my son and passengers in and out of. The new trucks ride extremely well too. |

After that they made the girly body style that 6/10 of the population owns and still drives around today, and put a 4.6 L in them in 95 or 96 I believe. Then the body style today is just fucking ugly. |

I also have a F-150 supercab and have had no problems with it ,as with most vehicles if you take care of them they will take care of you.
Now im not saying that defects do not happen because they do ,it can be anything from a faulty part that did not get caught at the factory to a new person on a job that didnt do a job properly because frankly when people are not on there regular jobs things get by. I am biased of course on F150's simply because I work in Dearborn as a body repairman working with F150's daily ,but I will also say that 30 years as the sales leader in the truck market something would have given by now if the F150 was not worth the money and reliability. My dad has had an F150 for about 7 years now and it's beefy. It's a "smaller" king cab that seats four, but as a guy who's 6'1",
I really hate sitting in the back.
Have you considered the latest Dodge model? My friend got one of those super king-cab models and holy crap it's the size of a Lincoln Towncar on the inside. It's a turbo diesel and iirc gets way better mileage than the gasoline model.

Well I "wrecked" my car today on 77. A fucking dumptruck carrying broken up asphalt definately lost a lot of its load in front of me today and I ran
over football sized chunks of the crap and fucked my car up pretty bad. I'm glad I was in the right lane only doing between 55-60. Radiator ruined, blow
out rear tire, and a lot of shit under the car is messed up. I don't know much about cars so I'm just waiting to see what else is wrong.
To top it off, the douche bag didn't stop and I couldn't exactly chase him down and get a plate number. Other people ran over all the debris too and fucked their cars up. It took an hour for the Highway Patrol to finally show up and get my story and all. They even asked me retarded questions like "were you wearing your seat belt" and crap. They gave me a report and all and said if they couldn't find the guy (several different people gave the cops the same description of the dump truck), that my insurance would have to pay. Which sucks, because that asshole should have stopped and let his insurance cover it. Anyway, I hope Allstate just totals the damn Civic and writes me a check for $4500-5500, it's beat up pretty bad. and get this, my roommate comes to pick me up from the body shop I have it towed to in his '83 F-150, and the damn thing breaks down on our way home! I guess we're going out in style for 2007. Now I hope I can call someone to get a ride somewhere tonight, heh. |

Zifnab...Yes and No the Ranger has been around since before Ford took a 3rd stake into Mazda although they do both have a light duty pickup truck,but im
pretty sure in the near future the Ranger is dead unless ford revamps it majorly sales are just to low.

I had a 1997 F150 3 door extended cab and loved it. Never had any problems with it. I ended up selling it last year
 since my wife traded in her Pacifica for a Camry (her commute is 45 miles each
way, I tried to talk her into the Prius /sigh) and we needed another "family" vehicle.
I'm driving an Explorer now, which isn't great on mileage, but I only live 5 miles from work.
