Jason Allen: 1st round draft pick by Saban. Has been getting burned at the CB position by 2nd, 3rd, and 4th stringers. Does not seem to "get it" yet.
Ronnie Brown: Another 1st round Saban pick. I like him a lot, but this is what our new coach, Cam Cameron said: "It's not his fault he was the 2nd pick in the draft and the expectations of him performing like that are the way they are." Ok...so basically what you're saying is: He is good, but not a 2nd overall, and we should have drafted Steven Jackson instead.
Fred Evans: Drafted by Saban. Released after being arrested on South Beach for drunken disorderliness and trying to strangle someone.
I guess Nick realized he wasn't ready or able to play with the big boys. He did us a favor by leaving, but we're still angry about it and 99% of Phins fans are now closet Auburn fans (GO WAR EAGLES! 6 IN A ROW!).
Now, this year's draft. John Beck looks good, and will be good for the future. He tears up 2nd and 3rd string. His passes are beautiful, especially the deep ball. I can see why Quinn was passed over for him. He seems to have everything Quinn has, plus a strong, accurate arm. Green and Lemon should be good QB's in this system for the next 2 years. Ted Ginn reverts to his old high school self by running sideline to sideline, etc. I'm not really sure how much benefit he'll give this year.
The O-line sucks. The defensive secondary sucks. The RB's should be good. Jesse Chatman spent 2 years behind LT and came to Miami with Cameron. He ripped a 78 yard TD run in pre-season and will likely split carries with Ronnie Brown. In this system, the running game should be great. The WR corps is a little above average. Cameron is getting it through Chambers head to stop dropping balls.
My final prediction: 7-9
The highest I set my expectations will be a wildcard playoff spot. The defense is great and will keep us in games, even with the mediocre secondary. The offense is better than last year, but will likely be sporadic with flashes of brilliance that just won't be enough against most teams.
