What would you be willing to give up if China were to mobilize (and magically produce a fundamental blue-water fleet) and actually threaten the West Coast?I founds this statement by Ed to be both fascinating and course for a possibly interesting discussion.
In this hypothetical example where china no longer fears retaliation by nukes and they have decided to invade the West Coast, what freedoms would i be willing to sacrifice to remain free? I would first have to wonder if China is going to land in the US or in Mexico because i certainly think the Mexican army is far less prepared to handle an invasion then the United States, but would I want our army marching into Mexico to stop china? Where does this scenario become a repeat of the pattern of WWII and Germany's aggression.
I suppose I would be in favor of mandatory military service on a timed basis. Meaning if we can't stop the Chinese in X amount of months/years then we may as well just let them conquer us and be done with it.
I think if the fleet was coming and there was just a day or two before they arrived, i personally would have little problem with martial law. If the fleet didn't land i would be very concerned probably after only a week if regular order wasn't restored.
Thoughts?
