It's on the ESPN Front Page right now.
edit: I don't even think a trade would be possible. Regardless of what people may think of him, what a team would have to give up would probably be very steep...if the Lakers even considered trading at all.

Kobe Bryant wants to be traded. |

Kobe said in an interview with Steven A. Smith that he wants to be traded and no longer wants to be a Laker. He says that nothing the Lakers can do will
convince him to stay.

Not convinced. He's probably just posturing and trying to force Kupchak out.
Players who meddle in the front office need to be taken down a peg or two. Edit: Why is this link "http://www.bf2sigs.net/sigs/0/8/43804241.png" crashing Firefox? It's adblocked now but it had been annoying me every time I clicked on a thread that you had posted in. |

I deleted the link Fed. I don't play BF2 anymore so showing my stats now was irrelevant. :) I never saw it since the Yuku transfer, so I had no idea it was
still around.

Kobe's going nowhere. The Lakers would have to ask for at least a third of an NBA team to get the salaries to nearly work. No GM is going to do that.
Fed, Kobe's right. It's time for the Lakers to suck it up and admit that Kupcake is a dismal failure. He'd be the worst damn GM in the sport if it weren't for Isiah Thomas. |

ohh the drama...
There are a number of teams that could work out an attractive deal for Kobe. However, the Lakers have said that they won't trade Kobe. Now this is something interesting. In the past; players could refuse to report to camp and not get paid. They could hold out the length of their contract and then become "free". This is what Jim Jackson and Alonzo Mourning did. New rule is in place though! If a player fails to report, the league can suspend that player. Suspending his contract from aging as well. They can essentially make it very, very difficult on a player who trys to strong arm a front office. Basically Kobe has 3 years left until he can opt out. If he decides not to show up for camp his contract would sit in limbo and not age at all. |

He's not supposed to be dictating personnel moves or holding the team hostage by essentially demanding front office people be fired. If he wasn't already one, he's now officially a douchebag. Edit: And bah on the Zeke gibe. At least he makes moves in some misguided attempt at improving the club. Kupchak just likes to stand pat and will the team to be better.

Kobe's done it on the court. In the 5 games against the Suns, he led the team at the half twice in points, assists, steals, AND rebounds. WTF more is there
for the guy to do? One guy shouldn't be doing all that.
And it's not a gibe on Zeke. It's well known that even though Zeke's tried to improve the team, most of his early deals were questionable (although, and I said this at the time, the Bulls were idiots to let Curry go, Zeke did pounce on that one, like he should have). Part of Kupcake's problem is he's an idiot (to this day, he fucked up with Radmanovich; he should've had his contract waived entirely, but Kupcake didn't have the balls), and the other part is the other idiot running the show, Jim Buss, who has a hard on for Bynum. The kid might actually be something...right when Kobe gives out. |

Kobe may be younger in years, but in "basketball age" he is older than Nash, Derek Fisher, and a couple of other players from that draft class talked
about as "old" or "aging". Someone on ESPN radio the other day said Kobe has played as many minutes as the average career starter does in
14 seasons making him effectively "33-34 years old" and was suggesting he had two years maybe before diminishing skills set in.
Of course, all-time great players can play some great ball even with "diminished skills". So, eh. But, I do think his age makes a trade possible. Again, not saying the Lakers would do it, just that it is possible. I think any large market city with two "stars" to offer could make something happen if the Lakers were willing. |

I was really shocked when I heard this, and I too wonder if he is just posturing. I really don't know what the Lakers can do, and honestly, without getting
amazingly lucky with unforeseen rookie talent or a trade for a mediocre player who explodes (think Raja Bell into the Suns' system), I don't see them
having any shot with Kobe at another title. Maybe this will shake things up a bit, or force them to.
The thing I thought immediately was "KG a Laker?" but who knows. And with Odom in LA I don't think that'd be a good fit anyways. Paul Pierce + someone else (young talent maybe) from Boston? Those are the only two that come to mind right now. Houston could make an offer with TMac and other players but I don't know if the Lakers would go for that.

How are LA fans?
If Kobe keeps up the pressure saying he doesn't want to be in LA, are the LA fans going to turn on him?

My guess? "Hey asshat. Without Shaq you haven't won shit. You're not going anywhere and all you're doing is pissing off the fans who buy your
jersey for 125 bucks allowing you to buy your way out of marital infidelities."

This is what I think.
Someone in the front office once again decided to "leak" the line about how Kobe was the reason Shaq left. So Kobe gets pisses about the drama and decides to send a message to the front office. What better way to do that then to get on the radio and claim you want to be traded? He was likely never sincere about it. |

I'm leaning toward Buss myself (yet another reason he doesn't need to be taking over the damn team), but don't put it past Kupcake. After all,
Kupcake knew he'd be taking at least part of the blame for moving Shaq.

For the record, take anything ever written or said by Steven A. Smith with a grain of salt. He's a hack, his M.O. is controversy, and he creates issues
where there are none.

More drama, where the hell is Jeffs when you actually wanna read a homer rant!! IMO, no way they trade him. Much as i despise this guy and the situation of his own making in LA, he puts fans in the stands. Plus, where are you gonna get value for him, you would need to almost gut a team to get just equal cash value. He will be there next year, but how will the fans react? Gadin |

cant trade him to a team he doesnt want to go to, i heard one guy on espn say hes the only guy with a full no trade clause in the NBA. so basically they have
to send him to a contender and then get back the best value they can... or hold on to him and have him drive the franchise into the drama abyss next year

It's a pretty situation.
Honestly, LA's best hope is in missing the playoffs, winning a lottery pick and getting a surprising superstar, or trading their mediocre players for other mediocre players with more potential, and them having amazing break-out seasons. Although that will still end up with them losing, just like the Suns did with a similar recipe. Meh. It's not a good situation for LA, honestly.

He's not going anywhere. The Lakers (if they're smart, but don't get me started) would only trade him for 2 players in the East: LeBron or Wade.
Well, I'm not even going into why Miami's not a destination, and I frankly think Cleveland fans would burn their front office down if they let LeBron
go. The only *possible* way I could see it happening is if the front office somehow decides there's absolutely no way they'd keep James beyond the time
his contract expired. Even then, the chances are so small it's barely worth mentioning.
Jerry Buss best pray his son gets his head out his ass and decides to move Bynum. This is the last chance this franchise has to win a title until they're sold. |

Seanen wrote: Well, don't imply that it's because Shaq is there either. Nobody would trade Wade or James for Bryant because they both have more upside and both make around half the money Bryant does. Wade has already proven he can accomplish the same results as Bryant (winning a championship with Shaq) and James is better than both of them. If Kobe wanted to be traded he should have acted sooner, New York would have been a possible destination. The Lakers could have gotten a bunch of expiring contracts, a couple of potentially very good draft picks, and Kobe could have been convinced that playing with Steve Francis and Stephon Marbury would make a contender out of the team in the largest market in the America. It would have worked for New York because they will still be in salary hell for another two years even after that $40 million in contracts expired. |

James is better than both of them. I would say he "will be better." He's not there yet, imo. Wade and James are not going anywhere. They mean too much to their organizations. I think it is more profitable for Cleveland and Miami to keep their young superstars and churn out more profit over time as fans of those teams watch them grow before their eyes, as opposed to taking Kobe, who is a little older, and many more people are polarized on the love/hate axis with him. |

New York is not a destination, they don't have much of anything the Lakers want. They've talked to Chicago, but whether or not they'd be able to
field a contending team once a trade goes down is another story.
And I'm not implying Miami's out because Shaq is there, I'm saying it. |
