For those who continue to insist that this is not or should not be an issue, please review this transcript. As you can see, Obama admits that it IS an issue and can understand why it is an issue. Can we end the "it is not an issue" debate now?

Question: Do you think that Reverend Wright is just the victim here?

OBAMA: No. I think that people were legitimately offended by some of the comments that he had made in the past.

The fact that he is my former pastor I think makes it a legitimate political issue. So I understand that.

We need a thread that talks about all of the things that Obama has done that remove any credibility for a run at the White House.

1. His pastor is a dink. (never mind all the Catholics who put up with child-molesting priests, this is different!)
2. His personal attire - no American flag lapel pin
3. His personal attire - USMC t-shirt. The horror!
4. His surname makes him sound like a filthy Muslim

people can insist all they want. the PACs haven't opened up on the republican side for the simple reason obama hasn't won the primary. if he does, the real fun begins.

which makes Wright not just an anomaly, but part of a pattern.

We can make a shorter list...one of his accomplishments in office.

1. He won the primary for his senate position when his democrat opponent self destructed in a sex scandal.
2. He won his senate position after his republican opponent self destructed in a sex scandal.
3. His wife is finally proud of American now that people are voting for him.

That's all I got. Maybe someone else can come up with something.

what about what hes done to gain credibility for a run at the white house? 2 books, a 2 term state senate stint that he lawyered his way into running unapposed, a failed U.S. House bid, a U.S. senate bid that he was gifted, then held for 2 years before announcing a run for the white house, and now a campaign of "hope and change" with a whole bunch of promises and no way to deliver on all of them...

This statement is the heart of the issue and why I think you just don't get it... The fact that Obama says it's an issue doesn't mean I agree.

Much like Obama can have a relationship with someone who holds some ideas he may not share, I can vote for a candidate who has opinions I don't share. Using the neocon false logic of guilt by association, I'm probably going to be accused of thinking this whole thing "is an isssue" because of my support for him. It's not.

Because our current administration has set some sort of precedent where anyone who changes their mind is a "flip-flopper". Hence our "wind-up toy walking against a wall" policy on Iraq.

It's crazy that learning from your experiences and/or adapting to changing situations has become vilified, but yeah...

god forbid we raise legitimate questions about his ability to be commander in chief and leader of our country...much easier to try and keep people focused on things that don't matter so you can ridicule them instead of debate them...

His policies aside, i have serious doubts that he's experienced enough to run the country. Who gives a shit if he's black white brown red green blue whatever...he's an elitist who's so left he makes hillary look like a centrist...although i've encountered this on another message board i frequent...any criticism of Obama makes you a racist...so i'm not surprised...

Far easier to just stick to what he has said and done. He's said, over and over, that he wants to "bring all sides together" and work to end partisanship. Yet, if you look at his record, there isn't a single time that he has voted against his party nor is there any example of him "reaching across the aisle" to work in anything remotely bi-partisan on real legislation. Couple that with his having held ZERO hearings as head of the committee he is chairman of and you get the most far left Democrat in Congress. What has he done, other than talk a good game? What meaningful bills has he introduced that have been signed into law?

The Republicans in Congress has been so wrong on just about everything for a long time. And when they are right, the Democrats are invariably totally wrong on the issue. Other than for the few no-brainers and some other bad ideas, there hasn't been much room for too much reaching across the aisle.

What has he done, other than talk a good game? What meaningful bills has he introduced that have been signed into law?

A vaild point. A concern I shared. What I keep coming back to is what has he done wrong? What has he said that's wrong? And when you compare that to what the other two choices have both said and done, Obama pulls into the lead by a score of 0 to -5 to -5. Obama's talk may be all big ideas that are empty on substance, but those are better than the bad ideas (substantive or not) of McCain. And while he may not be a saint (nor McCain for that matter), at least we're not 100% sure they're genuinely bad human beings.

Rush and Coulter are pundits and free PR. If you don't like them, turn them off. They're harmless, regardless of how much of fuckwits they are.

Hagee is a political expediency. He's courted because of votes. McCain doesn't hang out with him. They aren't buddies. He had no relationship with him before his candidacy. He shouldn't court that vote, but then again, there are plenty of special interest groups that no candidate should court and do. It's par for the course.

Wright, Ayers and Rezko are all friends of Obama. They were friends before he was a candidate. He has a relationship with them that has nothing to do with presidential run because they were around before he was running. That, at the least, makes his judgement questionable.
